Rainbow After the Rain

The doorbell rang! Ka Ka excitedly “Daddy is home! Daddy is home!”, but the person who rang wasn’t daddy and realized the sadden fact is that Daddy is never coming home!

Ka Ka’s father was admitted to hospital last September by a regular check-up and treatment, didn’t expect a regular lung surgery would have caused an infection and taken her father life without any sign. To Ka Ka and her mother, his sudden departure was an unbearable news. No only lost the family financial support, the mother as a new immigrant and having no relatives in Hong Kong to rely on. In a split of second, the mother and daughter felt helpless and abandoned. While the mother was sorrowing for the departure of her husband, it’s already out of her ability to console Ka Ka.

In school, teachers and principal observed that Ka Ka not only sadden and no longer smiling, she started to hide and suppress her emotion within, not willing to talk about her father and seemed to be afraid to get hurt once again. Luckily after referral, the social worker of “Rainbow After the Rain” assisted Ka Ka and her mother to go through the hardest moment. Remember in the funeral service, when Ka Ka needed to say final good-bye to her father, she can finally release her suppressed emotion to say the last good-bye.

Now Ka Ka can freely expresses her emotion toward her father through play therapy; she still would say, “Father I miss you so much!”, but her smiley face has returned as she believes her father is in heaven watching over and blessing her! When facing the life journey, although there is unavoidable hardship or uncertainty, but “Rainbow After the Rain” scheme had brought Ka Ka support & acceptance and helped her confidence & ability to face many challenges ahead!
